About Solway Dog Training Centre

Established in 1982, Solway Dog Training School was the first A.P.D.T. accredited & Kennel Club listed Dog Training facility, in West Cumbria. We were also the first in Cumbria to be accredited by The Animal Behaviour & Training Council.

Based in their own training centre at Hensingham near Whitehaven, they specialise in training in very small groups (just 4 to 6 dogs in every class) providing a personalised service, which caters for the individual needs of dog and owner.

Principal Instructor and owner of the centre, June Lambie, is a member of The Association of Pet Dog Trainers U.K., with a Distinction in Canine Psychology, and over 30 years practical experience in training dogs of all breeds.

Combining a wealth of knowledge and experience, with up to date, nationally recognised Dog Training and Behaviour qualifications. She is also a Kennel Club approved Dog Obedience Judge. June has a special interest in the rehabilitation of rescued dogs.

The Centre is approved, supported, and recommended by local veterinary practices, and June has provided a Behaviour Counselling service for:

  • Galemire Veterinary Hospital, Cleator Moor

  • Paragon Veterinary Group, Dalston

  • Ashlea Veterinary Centre, Carlisle

In addition, she accepts referrals from many other practices.

Over the years, June has trained literally hundreds of pet dogs, (and their owners!) but a wide range of ‘Dogs with Jobs’ have also featured on June’s list, these include:

  • Passive Drugs detection dogs for the police and prison service

  • Hearing dogs for the deaf

  • Search and Rescue dogs for Mountain Rescue teams

  • Assistance dogs for disabled people

  • and Pets as therapy (PAT) dogs
